BEIJING, Jun 01, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Changyou.com Ltd. (Nasdaq: CYOU), US listed online game developer and operator under the aegis of Sohu.com Inc. (Nasdaq: SOHU), announces that it will fully acquire Shanghai Jing Mao Cultural Communications Ltd. and associated companies.

Shanghai Jing Mao was founded in 2008, engaged in film advertising and licensed to post advertisements in more than 200 high-end cinemas.

Meanwhile, Sohu Video reveals that it will form cooperation with Jing Mao Film Media. Both sides will share resources and improve the brand influence of Sohu Video.

Currently, Chinese video sharing Web sites are purchasing more copyrighted films and TV operas as well as producing more self made video contents.

Actually, since last year, the growth has slowed down for the Chinese online gaming market, shortening the life cycles of game products and weakening user stickiness of updated game versions and new expansion packs. It has become top priority of online game companies to look for opportunity in value-added service of their game products.

FED:Coalition must repeal carbon tax: Abbott

SYDNEY, Dec 1 AAP - A future Coalition government that failed to repeal the carbon
tax wouldn't deserve to stay in office, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says.

Speaking on the second anniversary of becoming leader of the Liberal Party, Mr Abbott
has repeated his "pledge in blood" to get rid of Labor's controversial legislation, which
passed through parliament in November.

"We will rescind it, we will do whatever is necessary to rescind it," he told a NSW
Business Chamber lunch in Sydney on Thursday.

"And if we fail, we will deservedly not stay in office.

"Because oppositions that say one thing before an election to win votes, and do the
opposite afterwards to win government (and) stay in government, do not deserve the continued
support of the people."

Mr Abbott said Prime Minister Julia Gillard's statement before the last election that
there would be no carbon tax under a government she led would "deservedly haunt...(her)
to her political grave".

INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2011 M2 COMMUNICATIONS

14 March 2011 -- IBM (NYSE:IBM) is much more advanced than its rival Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ), or HP, in developing the integrated software and services operations necessary for the success of a modern IT company, the Financial Times quoted the chief of IBM's services division Mike Daniels as saying.
Daniels' remarks came ahead of a crucial strategic meeting at HP on Monday where the group's new chief executive Leo Apotheker is to present his strategic plans.

Daniels said that the close link between IBM's software and services operations has allowed the company to strengthen its profit margins more than HP and was likely to keep its lead with a planned expansion by 2016.

Wall Street seems to support Daniels' views as shares in the two leading IT companies have performed very differently, with IBM gaining 27% while HP was down 20% over the past year.

Qld: State planners to take maple leaf out of Canada's book

BRISBANE, April 30 AAP - Queensland plans to borrow ideas from Canada to help manage
the state's rapid population growth.

Premier Anna Bligh has met with leaders in urban planning and transport in Vancouver,
Canada, during a trade mission.

Ms Bligh said in a statement on Friday the Queensland government would set up an exchange
of senior planners with the city of Vancouver to build expertise in the field.

"Vancouver has been consistently ranked as the world's most liveable city over the
past decade," Ms Bligh said.

"The planning challenges here are similar to those we face in Queensland, particularly
in the southeast corner."

The premier on Saturday will sign a deal with British Columbia to also share expertise
on growth management.

Southeast Queensland's population is expected to grow from 2.8 million to 4.4 million
by 2031 - an increase of 57 per cent.

Over the same period, the greater Vancouver region is expected to grow from 2.2 million
to 3.1 million.

Vic: Young indigenous Mum aims high

By Melissa Jenkins

MELBOURNE, Dec 16 AAP - Young indigenous mum Kaley Nicholson wants her daughters to
know they can achieve anything if they have the passion.

The ambitious 22-year-old has no hesitation in aiming for the top when she finishes
her traineeship at Telstra Country Wide next year.

"It would be nice to be the boss one day," Ms Nicolson told AAP on Wednesday.

"I don't picture that coming on any time soon, but that's where I'm aiming to be."

Ms Nicholson was in Melbourne on Wednesday to celebrate the opening of the first Victorian
office of the Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES), a program that places indigenous people
in work.

She gave birth to her eldest daughter Shanika when she was 16 years old, and Savanah
three years later.

"When I got pregnant I was in a small country town, and you couldn't really be a big,
pregnant girl at school so I left," she said.

Once Shanika was four, Ms Nicholson returned to school in Geelong, where she is currently
completing her business traineeship.

She figures the best way to show her daughters - and her six younger siblings - that
they can achieve anything is to lead by example.

"Being the eldest of seven and a mother as well, I really didn't want them to make
the silly choices that I made.

"I just want to show them it doesn't matter what you do, you can still come out of it okay.

"I had kids when I was 16, and it doesn't really stop you if you're passionate and
you want to try and you want to do your best, then you can do it."

Ms Nicholson said the obstacles many indigenous people faced when looking for work
included not having appropriate clothing for job interviews and being unfamiliar with
the type of business jargon used.

"It's a totally different culture than what we have at home," she said.

"It's going out into something that's completely foreign when you've never been in
that situation before, so it can be pretty scary."

The AES helps indigenous people overcome these obstacles and offers support after they
secure work.

Chief executive Danny Lester views corporate Australia, rather than government, as
the key to closing the gap between indigenous and non-indigenous people.

"Government can only fund a program and they can't sustain that for a long period of
time," he said.

"But corporate Australia, or small businesses, can provide the continuing funding through
a real job and a pay packet."

Mr Lester said the AES wanted to break the "hideous welfare cycle" among indigenous Australians.

The AES has placed more than 1500 indigenous people in jobs in the last 12 months.

Mr Lester hopes the AES will place more than 1800 new indigenous people in work by June
2010.

Vic: AFL player's cousin remanded in custody on drugs charges

By Daniel Fogarty

MELBOURNE, Aug 7 AAP - Two men have been remanded in custody over drug raids which
resulted in an AFL footballer being charged with possessing ecstasy.

Police found a single ecstasy tablet in the home of Essendon defender Nathan Lovett-Murray
during a raid last Monday.

The raid was one of 11 conducted by police in Melbourne and the regional centres of
Swan Hill and Ballarat, after which five men were charged on offences including drug trafficking,
possessing firearms and possessing proceeds of crime.

Lovett-Murray's cousin Robert Knight, 35, of Epping, faced the Melbourne Magistrates
Court on Friday along with 41-year-old Swan Hill man Darren Perry.

Knight's charges include trafficking a commercial quantity of amphetamine and trafficking
a commercial quantity of ecstasy.

Police allege the trafficking occurred at Epping between April 8 and July 31 this year.

Perry's charges include trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine in Victoria
between April and June this year.

The pair made no application for bail and will appear in the same court on November 4.

Lovett-Murray's brother Dane, 19, has also been charged with trafficking, but is yet
to face court.

Lovett-Murray, 26, does not face trafficking charges and will appear in court in October
on the drug possession charge.

He also faces an unlicensed driving charge.

Essendon managing director Peter Jackson said on Tuesday there was a presumption of
innocence and Lovett-Murray would contest the charge.

He said the club had decided to let Lovett-Murray continue to train and play before
his case goes to court.

"This is a serious matter and we, as a club, are treating it as such," he said.

Lovett-Murray has been named to play in the back pocket against Brisbane on Saturday
night at the MCG, a game crucial to Essendon's finals hopes.

Originally from Heywood in western Victoria, he has played 94 games for the Bombers
since his debut in 2004, and nine this season.

Fed: Hopes fade for Australian kayaker lost in Tasman

AAP General News (Australia)
02-11-2007
Fed: Hopes fade for Australian kayaker lost in Tasman

SYDNEY, Feb 11 AAP - Hopes of finding missing trans-Tasman kayaker Andrew McAuley alive
are fading after rescuers discovered he may not have been carrying a vital piece of survival
equipment - a full-body immersion suit.

Rescue advisers will decide tomorrow whether to continue searching for the 39-year-old
Australian, whose upturned kayak was spotted by a New Zealand air force plane yesterday
afternoon in rough seas about 75km off Milford Sound in the south island.

There was no sign Mr McAuley, who had been expected to arrive in Milford Sound today
after leaving Tasmania on January 11 in an attempt to become the first person to paddle
across the Tasman in a kayak.

Concerns about his safety emerged after New Zealand maritime authorities picked up
a garbled distress message on Friday night.

Advisers of the Rescue Coordination Centre of NZ will meet around 10am (AEDT) tomorrow
to assess the weather, ocean currents, the time elapsed since the search began and the
gear Mr McAuley carried.

Authorities had hoped the adventurer could survive for at least a few days in the conditions,
believing he was probably wearing his lifejacket and a full-body immersion suit.

But a spokeswoman for the rescue centre, Annie Lattey, said today it had been learned
McAuley did not have the immersion suit with him.

A full-body immersion suit would have extended his survival in the water by up to 11 hours.

"Andrew was not in fact wearing a full body immersion suit. We found that out this
afternoon," she said.

It was now thought he may have only had a dry kayaking jacket on board and his life
jacket, she said.

"It obviously does have an impact on things. Survival suits give about 10-11 hours
extra. He has been in the water now for about 48 hours."

However, Ben Deacon, a friend of the adventurer and a member of the team making a documentary
about his voyage, said he was certain McAuley was carrying an immersion suit.

"There has been a bit of confusion on their (the rescuers') part. They have got that
information from (Andrew's wife) Vicki who is very upset at the moment," he said.

"Vicki wasn't really in a position to give chapter and verse of Andrew's equipment," he said.

Deacon said he had not been able to find a detailed list of the equipment McAuley took
with him, but he was in no doubt his friend would have carried it on board.

"The dry suit was his pride and joy. It cost him a fortune," Deacon said.

However, even if he was carrying the suit, it would only have extended his survival
for up to 11 hours and he had been missing for two days by tonight.

Earlier today documentary maker and spokeswoman for the McAuley family Jen Peedom said
Vicki McAuley - Andrew's wife - was distraught after learning last night that her husband's
empty kayak had been found.

"I would say that Vicki is in shock," Peedom said.

Vicki is staying in Te Anau, near Milford Sound, with her three-year-old son Finlay,
Andrew's father Peter and his sister Juliette.

News Corp. pursues Web 'folder' service

Richard Siklos
International Herald Tribune
08-17-2005
News Corp. is in discussions to acquire Blinkx, a service that scours the World Wide Web for video and audio clips and organizes them automatically in folders. Rupert Murdoch, chairman and chief executive of News Corp., has made clear that it is eager to build a presence on the Internet. He said in a conference call last week that the company was ''in very advanced negotiations to buy a controlling interest in what we think is a wonderful search engine.'' However, the talks between the companies were not as advanced as Murdoch indicated, a person briefed on those discussions said Monday. The person asked not to be identified because the talks were confidential. Representatives for News Corp. and Blinkx declined to comment. The talks were first reported by The Los Angeles Times. The value of a potential deal is unclear, but Murdoch had said he did not contemplate spending nearly as much on a single company as the $580 million he recently agreed to pay for Intermix Media, which operates the popular site MySpace.com. Murdoch has said that he was willing to spend $1 billion to $2 billion to acquire Web businesses through Fox Interactive Media, a new division of News Corp. In addition to Intermix, the company recently paid $60 million for Scout.com, a Web company that helps people follow athletes and sports teams. Blinkx, a closely held private company, is a newcomer in the surging search business, which is led by Google and Yahoo. But Blinkx is focused on a medium video that is expected to attract both audiences and advertisers as the number of homes with broadband Internet connections grows. The service offers a couple of twists on the practice of entering a query and getting screen filled with quick responses. Once a ''smart folder'' on a particular subject is created, the service will continue to compile relevant material in that folder and to update it, even when the computer is off. Once installed on a computer desktop, Blinkx's software can determine from the information being viewed on the screen what else might be relevant. For instance, if someone is reading an article on Greek mythology, a search for ''Apollo'' would list results for the Greek god ahead of results for the Apollo space program or the theater in Harlem. Blinkx also has arrangements with established media companies that make video content available to it; one deal, with The New York Times and its about.com affiliate, was announced last month.

Getting Connected: USB and FireWire let you plug all sorts of add-ons into your PC. Which is right for you?(Focus on Technology)(Brief Article)

When you're buying a new computer, you can never be certain you're getting the best machine. That's why the salesperson says when trying to close the deal: "If you want to add features later"--a CD burner, a Zip drive, an extra hard disk--"you can always upgrade." That's true in theory. In practice, most of us are afraid to open up our computers to add new hardware. We'd much rather buy an external device we connect to the PC with a simple cable.

Unfortunately, the "plug and play" option didn't work for add-ons that require a high data-transfer rate, like hard drives and video cameras. Finally, in 1999, Windows-based machines added support for a pair of new peripheral interfaces (those connectors on the front or back of your PC) that were faster and smarter than their predecessors. One was the Intel-developed Universal Serial Bus, more commonly known as USB. The other was IEEE-1394, engineered by Apple. Things get confusing here. Apple gave IEEE the trademark name FireWire. But when Sony licensed the technology as part of its strategy to mate PCs to consumer gear like digital video cameras, it decided to use the name iLINK. ("We didn't feel the word "fire" was appropriate for a consumer electronics device," explains Sonyspokesperson Mack Araki.) Several other companies, loath to use names that have been trademarked by Apple or Sony, have opted to refer to it as 1394. So when you go to the store and hear all these names being thrown about, remember they're all the same thing.

The high-speed USB and FireWire standards made it possible to plug in increasingly popular peripherals like CD burners, MP3 players and digital video cameras. USB can handle a zippy 12 megabits per second, and FireWire blazes along at a staggering top speed of 400Mb per second. (To put it in perspective, that's more than 7,100 times faster than your 56K modem.) Thanks to the support of giants like Microsoft, Apple and Sony, USB and 1394 are rapidly becoming ubiquitous. If you bought a PC from Christmas 1998 onward, the odds are you have one or more USB ports; also, soon-to-be-merged Hewlett-Packard and Compaq have decided to put FireWire on all their Pentium 4 PCs shipping later this month. Even Sony's superpowered PlayStation 2 game console has USB and FireWire ports, so that in the future you'll be able to taunt your friends over the Internet using a USB microphone, or add special effects to your home videos when you connect your FireWire-equipped camcorder.

Today, it's pretty easy to decide when to use USB. It's slower, but great for relatively low-bandwidth PC peripherals: mice, trackballs, digital still cameras, handheld computers and MP3 players. FireWire, on the other hand, not only works well for high-bandwidth accessories like high-resolution scanners and laser printers, but is also quickly becoming the connection standard for digital home entertainment, replacing all those unsightly cables that clutter up the space behind your home entertainment center. That's because USB is a "hub" technology, requiring a smart device like a PC to serve as a traffic cop between your various peripherals, while FireWire's "peer to peer" approach lets your peripherals talk directly to one an-other. And since no one wants a PC in the living room, it's the perfect place for FireWire to find a home. "The promiseof 1394 is the potential to connect all of your entertainment devices with a single wire," says David Fair, a manager at Intel, noting that it's already widely deployedin Japan.

Right now, the killer app for FireWire is digital video editing, since each hour of video footage translates into 10 to 15 gigabytes of data. Apple and Sony's PCs all ship with user-friendly video-editing software, and Microsoft is improving its basic editing features in the upcoming Windows XP. "People want to take an hour of home video and condense it to five minutes for Grandma," says Fair. "Not that she wouldn't watch the whole hour, but she'll show a five-minute clip to all her friends." For the PC industry, what's exciting is that camcorders, VCRs and other entertainment devices can now talk to PCs, thanks to FireWire.

So far, USB and FireWire complement each other by meeting very different needs. But with the upcoming USB 2.0 version promising speeds of 480Mb per second--making it 20 percent faster than FireWire--the two technologies appear to be on a collision course. (FireWire isn't standing still; the next version is slated to hit 800Mb per second.) Because USB 2.0 has been slow to develop, Microsoft is not supporting it in Windows XP, which means that USB 2.0 devices won't be plug-and-play; you'll have to install some software first. Greg Sullivan, the lead product manager for Windows XP, says that Microsoft will find some way to support it shortly after XP ships, and refuses to get caught up in a battle over which technology will win out. "There could be confusion [for users], but people mostly think about the device first, then the method of connection. If my digital video camera has FireWire, that's what I use. If I have a digital still camera with USB, I use that. And the great thing is that we support both." Now that you know the differences between USB and 1394, you'll probably find yourself supporting both, too.

Harmon, who turned Woods into the best player on the planet, is confident he will return - and the rest of the world had better be ready. "We hope he (Tiger) comes back. When you have had four surgeries on the same knee you don't know how strong it is going to be, but I hope he will come back," Harmon told 7DAYS during a preview of his new academy at The Els Club. "I'll tell you one thing; when Tiger Woods does come back he will come back ready to win because he doesn't come out just to get ready. He won't come out unless he feels he is ready to win. "Let's hope that is sooner rather than later because we need him to come back. He's the greatest player I've seen. "We hope he comes back bigger and stronger because it'll make the other guys work even harder because you want to beat the best. And Tiger Woods is the best. "You just hope he comes back and the knee is strong. For him to come out and get another injury on the knee would be devastating." While we wait to see if Woods comes out firing, Harmon believes Harrington could be the one making the headlines again this year. Harrington will go into the first Major of 2009 - the Masters - as one of the favourites and on course to complete the 'Grand Slam' by holding all four Majors at the same time. And Harmon, who counts Ernie Els, Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson as his pupils, believes the Irishman has the game to win at Augusta. "Is Harrington capable of winning The Masters? You bet he is. He's actually the only one capable of winning the Grand Slam. If you win four in a row they call it a mini-Slam as it is not in the same season, but anyone who wins four in a row for me it's a Grand Slam. "He's what I call an over-achiever. He may not look as impressive as a Tiger Woods or an Ernie Els might look, but he's dedicated. He's a fighter. He will fight you and fight you and he has to be considered as one of the favourites. "You need to be a good putter and have an imaginative short game if you want to win and Harrington has that." Harmon, meanwhile, admitted he is jealous of the set-up of his golf school at Dubai Sports City. The 65-year-old, who has his headquarters in Las Vegas, opens his state-of-the-art Dubai academy today, which will be run by his son Claude Harmon III, with Justin Parsons as the head teaching pro. And Harmon told 7DAYS: "This is a better facility than my headquarters in Vegas. "We have the best technology; the experience of a student coming through here will be the exact experience the world's top players get. It's a golf school for every player - experienced, beginner, junior." And he laid down the gauntlet to potential Butch Harmon School of Golf pupils: "There's nothing like it in the world, If you don't get better after coming here then it's your fault."
