FED:Coalition must repeal carbon tax: Abbott
SYDNEY, Dec 1 AAP - A future Coalition government that failed to repeal the carbon
tax wouldn't deserve to stay in office, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says.
Speaking on the second anniversary of becoming leader of the Liberal Party, Mr Abbott
has repeated his "pledge in blood" to get rid of Labor's controversial legislation, which
passed through parliament in November.
"We will rescind it, we will do whatever is necessary to rescind it," he told a NSW
Business Chamber lunch in Sydney on Thursday.
"And if we fail, we will deservedly not stay in office.
"Because oppositions that say one thing before an election to win votes, and do the
opposite afterwards to win government (and) stay in government, do not deserve the continued
support of the people."
Mr Abbott said Prime Minister Julia Gillard's statement before the last election that
there would be no carbon tax under a government she led would "deservedly haunt...(her)
to her political grave".
